MFAM Week 5: Sneak Peek

Well, it looks like my sacrifices to the car maintenance deities paid off this week, as my car is still running smoothly. (Woo!) Unfortunately, the time gods felt left out and have now made me the subject of their wrath. (Boo!)

As of 4:00 am, this week’s project is maybe half way finished. (It’s a definite maybe.) But don’t be too disappointed, because I have a preview of what I have so far.

This week I’m recreating my costume from the Nelson-Atkins staff Halloween costume party c. 2008, when I dressed as Fairfield Porter’s daughter.

I won’t include the photo of me in my costume in this post, but it will be included in the follow up post that includes the complete refashion. (And I look like a total dork, so there’s that too.)

I’m still working on the blouse and skirt, but I finished the cardigan a day or so ago. It started out a boring, zippered Old Navy sweater…

IMG_1285bNot my best look.

…but after shortening the sleeves…

…and removing the zipper and adding some details…

…it’s actually pretty cute.

Now I’m off to catch some zzzs, because when you fall out of your office chair (when it’s not moving) it’s time to call it a night.

I’ll be back later Saturday or Sunday morning with the completed refashion and aforementioned embarrassing photo. Until then…

I love this series! So different and dare I say intellectual. I wouldn’t recognize any character from a painting other than Mona Lisa (la jaconde – saw it in France) or Girl with a Pearl Earring (saw the movie). I like what you’ve done with the sweater so far. I’m just starting with refashioning – how long have you been sewing like this?

I’m glad you like it so far! It’s been a fun challenge.

I finished my first dress refashion in December 2010, but I’d been sewing off and on since I was a kid. I’ve really grown to love it over the past few years. I hope you do too!
